Rakele Fiott presents 'Dellijiet'

Rakele Fiott is a presenter, producer, and historian specialising in the social and socio-economic history of the Early Modern period, with a particular research focus on the lives of young people in Malta.

She read History at the University of Malta. Her academic work has been published in several leading journals, including The National Archives Journal (Arkivju, 2023), the Malta Historical Society’s Melita Historica (2024), and the Malta University Historical Society’s Storja (2024).

More recently, she co-authored ‘Introduction: The Religion and the Land’ with Prof. Emanuel Buttigieg in The Land and the Cross: Properties of the Order of St John between Centre and Periphery (16th–18th Centuries) (2025). She is also an active committee member of the Malta Historical Society.

Rakele currently produces and presents Dellijiet, a weekly programme on Campus 103.7.

The programme adopts a historical narrative approach to explore crime in Malta across the centuries; not as sensationalism, but as a lens through which to understand society, power structures,, and the often-overlooked experiences of victims.

Dellijiet seeks to demonstrate that criminality extends beyond legal frameworks, reflecting broader themes such as prejudice, fear, relationships, and social realities.

Topics explored include the Inquisition, medicine and abuse, piracy and corsairing, heresy and witchcraft, violence involving children, slavery, and music, always with a strong emphasis on historical context and the voices of those frequently left unheard.
