Dr Anne Marie Thake is a full-time academic at the Faculty of Economics, Management, and Accountancy, University of Malta, specializing in human resources, employability, labour markets, governance, and public management. She holds a Ph.D. in Social and Policy Sciences from the University of Bath an M.Sc. in Human Resource Development from Victoria University of Manchester, U.K., and a B.A. (Hons.) in Public Administration from the University of Malta.
Dr Thake has held several academic and leadership roles, including serving as Head of the Department of Public Policy in 2017. She is currently a visiting lecturer at renowned institutions such as the University of Coimbra, Trinity College Dublin, the University of California, Irvine, and Edinburgh Business School. She has published extensively, including three books, two of which were with Emerald Publishing.
In addition to her academic career, Dr Thake has held senior roles in the public and private sectors, including at the Office of the Prime Minister of Malta, Bank of Valletta, and Deloitte. She played a key role in drafting Malta’s HR Policy and Strategy and has served on multiple government boards, including the Commission for HR Policy and the Commonwealth and Fellowships Board.
Internationally, Dr Thake worked with the European Parliament's Directorate General for Research and is a Salzburg Global Fellow. She received a U.S. scholarship to attend the Study of the U.S. Institutes for Scholars program at the University of Montana in 2021. Dr Thake is actively involved in EU-funded projects, including COST Action 20123 on Intergovernmental Coordination and the Interreg Europe project on decarbonisation in tourism (DETOCS). At the University of Malta, she supervises Ph.D., master’s, and undergraduate students, coordinates Public Policy programmes, and leads EU study visits for students.
