Before joining the University of Malta’s Faculty of Education, Dr. Diane Vassallo was engaged in teaching and research in computing and digital literacy, working with schools, communities, and organisations to integrate technology into learning. She has been involved in both local and international projects that promote entrepreneurship, creativity, and sustainable practices through ICT in education.
Dr. Vassallo read for her B.Ed. (Hons.) (Melit.) at the University of Malta before completing an M.Sc. in Learning Technologies at Lancaster University in the U.K. She went on to pursue her doctoral studies at Queen’s University Belfast, where her research explored the use of mainstream technologies for students with learning difficulties.
Her research continues to lie at the intersection of Computational Thinking, Executive Functions, and Artificial Intelligence in Education, with a particular interest in how digital tools and pedagogies can enhance learning across both formal and informal contexts.
Research is a central part of Dr. Vassallo’s work, but she also carries a regular teaching load at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She supervises student research in education and technology and remains committed to preparing future educators for the challenges and opportunities of teaching in a digital age.
