Holger Suarez has been a part of the social sector since 1995. He currently holds the position of a senior social worker in the public service. He is a visiting senior lecturer at the Department of Social Policy and Social Work at the Faculty of Social Wellbeing, University of Malta. Mr. Suarez has been teaching at the University since 2010 and is a warranted teacher. He was awarded the status of Fellow (FHEA) by the Higher Education Academy UK for his achievements in meeting the UK Professional Standards Framework in higher education. Additionally, in 2024, Mr. Suarez joined the Institute of Health and Social Care Management (UK), a professional organisation for leaders in health and social care.
Mr Suarez is a warranted social worker with the Malta Social Work Profession Board (MSWPB) and is registered with Social Work England (SWE). He has practised his profession at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Malta and with Children's 福利在线免费, Surrey County Council in the UK. Additionally, he served as an operations manager with Richmond Foundation, a leading Maltese Non-Governmental Organization specialising in mental health.
Since 2007, Mr Suarez has been actively engaged in various research projects focusing on domestic violence, homelessness, disability, and alternative care. His affiliations include membership in the Decision, Assessment, and Risk Special Interest Group (DARSIG) and the Evidence-into-Practice Special Interest Group (EiPSIG) under the auspices of the European Social Work Research Association (ESWRA). Moreover, he also served as a member of the Prison Board of Visitors in Malta and the Malta Social Work Profession Board.
Mr Suarez graduated from the University of Malta with a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Social Work in 2002. Subsequently, he completed his Master's degree in Human Rights and Democratization in 2004, and a Diploma in Diplomatic Studies in 2006 from the same institution. In 2012, he obtained his Diploma for Graduates in Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), University of London. Mr Suarez is reading for a PhD in evidence-based social work practice at the University of Hertfordshire, UK.
