Marilyn is a Professor with the Department of Psychology. She trained in Social Psychology at the University of Liverpool and completed a PhD in Criminal Careers at the University of Sheffield. Her main research interests are addiction and criminal careers, youth and safety of journalists. Her work spans areas such as media freedom, violence, drug use, and criminal career development, with a strong focus on vulnerable and marginalised populations. She has contributed to several international projects and policy initiatives, particularly in the area of addiction.
She is a member of the National Addiction Advisory Board and alternate member on the management board of the European Drugs Agency (EUDA). Some of her previous appointments included chairing the Malta Psychology Professions Board and the National Commission for Alcohol, Drugs and other Dependencies. She is currently co-ordinating the MSc in Addiction Studies at the University of Malta.
