Mark Debono is a Junior College Senior Lecturer II at the Ġ.F. Abela Junior College, University of Malta, where he teaches Systems of Knowledge. This interdisciplinary subject covers politics, art, environment, and science/technology. He earned his doctoral degree in pedagogical sciences - theory and philosophy of education, from the University of Cyprus under the supervision of Professor Marianna Papastephanou. This thesis reconceptualises education for justice by critically examining the effects of hegemonic positions of ‘truth’ in educational dialogic practices. Mark’s recent publications focus on the constraints of transmissive pedagogies, and how strict reliance on dialogic teaching models restricts students' voices in classroom dialogue. His research interests explore the influence of authoritative narratives across various contexts. The philosophical ideas of Friedrich Nietzsche and Jacques Derrida are significant motivations for his work.
