Professor Massa is resident senior faculty at the Department Business & Enterprise Management at the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy of the University of Malta – where he also co-coordinates the faculty's International MBA programme. Previously Council-appointed founding member, he is currently appointed by Senate on the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Business Incubation’s Board at the same university. A researcher associated with the Community for Internationalisation and Enterprise Research (CIER) at the Adam Smith Business School of the University of Glasgow – he also held membership at the Academy of International Business (AIB), USA, and the British Academy of Management (BAM), UK.
Nathaniel holds a PhD in International Business and Management from the Adam Smith Business School at the University of Glasgow, UK. Prior, he read for a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Management and Banking and Finance at the University of Malta; and graduated with an MBA from Henley Business School, UK.
An invited reviewer on Elsevier’s European Management Journal and Springer’s Journal of International Entrepreneurship, Professor Massa’s key research interests include strategy, international business and international entrepreneurship – particularly in respect of knowledge absorption and exploitation, dynamic capabilities and the leverage of intangible resources towards innovation and sustained competitive advantage. Other interests include opportunity recognition, sustainability and family business research.
Nathaniel lectures on undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes at the University of Malta and internationally in the fields of strategy, international business, innovation and entrepreneurship, and organisational behaviour – including corporate social responsibility (CSR) and ethics in business. Spanning academia and industry through consultancy assignments in public and private sectors, he has been engaged in expert involvement on international EU projects. He is actively involved in executive training programmes for managers and practitioners in business and industry.
He has presented his research and contributed at various international conferences and colloquia, and has been invited to give workshops and deliver lectures at foreign universities. Nathaniel’s research-related and professional international exposure includes Europe, the Americas and Asia.
