Professor Stephen Fava MD, MRCP(UK), FACP, FEFIM, FRCP(Lond), MPhil(Melit), FRCP(Lond) is the Head of the Diabetes & Endocrinology Centre and Chairperson of the Department of Medicine at Mater Dei Hospital, Malta. He has been appointed by the EU Commission as an expert on diabetes indicators. He is also the President of the Association of Physicians of Malta.
Professor Fava has served the Editorial Committee of the European Journal of Internal Medicine and is currently an Editorial Committee member for the Editorial Board of journal Cardiovascular Diabetology-Endocrinology Reports and a guest Editor for Frontiers in Public Health.
Professor Fava is at forefront of diabetes research. He has published a large number of important papers on high impact international journals including the British Medical Journal (BMJ), Diabetes Care, Diabetic Medicine, Diabetes & Metabolism, Acta Diabetologica, Current Diabetes Reviews, Journal of Diabetes and its Complications, American Journal of Cardiology, British Heart Journal, Clinical Cardiology, Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine, Expert Review of Cardiovascular Therapy, Journal of Diabetes Research & Clinical Metabolism, American Journal of Kidney Diseases, Nephrology Dialysis & Transplantation, European Journal of Internal Medicine, Postgraduate Medical Journal, British Journal of Hospital Medicine, British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Journal of Public Health and Expert Review of Clinical Immunology.
Prof. Fava is also an expert reviewer for a number of international journals. He has written invited editorials in top journals and edited special journal issues on various diabetes-related topics. He serves on the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Internal Medicine and the Maltese Medical Journal. Prof. Fava has written a number of book chapters on diabetes complications and has edited a book on kidney disease.
