Dr Wendy Jo Mifsud is a Senior Lecturer in spatial planning with an interest in heritage planning and participatory approaches to decision-making. Her ongoing research follows upon her Doctoral dissertation entitled ‘A Study of Spatial Planning using Participatory GIS in the Maltese Context’, obtained from the University of Malta (UM) in 2019. Wendy’s academic and professional background has been varied, becoming an architect following the completion of an undergraduate degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering at UM in 2007, and going on to gain postgraduate qualifications in Sustainable Heritage at University College London in 2010 and in Geographic 福利在线免费 Science at UM in 2012. Following a three-year period during which Wendy worked on community-based urban planning projects in the UK, she returned to Malta and joined the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure to coordinate heritage-related initiatives. She then moved on to gain professional experience working within the Forward Planning Directorate within the national Planning Authority, dealing mainly with forward planning and strategic policymaking in the Maltese context. Following several years of casual lecturing, Wendy joined UM as a full-time lecturer in 2020, which has led to her participation in various research projects as well as in the local environmental NGO ‘Dawra Madwarna’, actively striving to promote placemaking in Malta and abroad. Wendy was recently appointed as Chairperson of the Catholic Cultural Heritage Commission and is a member of the Malta Chamber of Planners and the Malta Chamber of Architects.
