PhD research at UM

This section identifies PhD research which has been undertaken at the University of Malta over the past twenty-six years and which directly or indirectly addressed sustainability, related themes and more-recently, any of the seventeen sustainable development goals.

The titles, listed in the tabs below, link to the Abstracts. The various dissertations have been classified according to records at the University Library, and organised according to the Five Pillars of Sustainable Development Goals, namely:

People – SDGs 1 to 5: ending poverty and hunger; good health and well-being; ensuring quality education for all; gender equality;

Planet – SDGs 6, 12 to 15: focusing on clean water and sanitation; protecting the Earth's natural resources and climate for future generations through sustainable management and climate action.

Prosperity – SDGs 7 to 11: focusing on ensuring that all human beings can enjoy prosperous and fulfilling lives, fostering economic, social, and technological progress in harmony with nature.

SDG's were adopted and started to be promoted by the United Nations in 2015; however, this list also includes PhD research undertaken prior to 2015 which include a clear and distinct link to sustainability.
