The M.Sc. in Digital Games has a strong research focus which allows students to innovate and explore new areas of Game AI, Game Design, and Game Studies in an in-depth dissertation. Our students also have the option to do an artefact-based dissertation. Since 2024 the dissertation has been reduced to a 1-semester exploration on a game-related topic. Dissertations before that were worth 60 ECTs as opposed to the current 30 ECTs. There is also an option to focus on a research on an M.Sc. level through out M.Sc. by research where students take less taught components but are expected to deliver a more comprehensive and details final dissertation for 90 ECTs.
Research is at the core of all the work at the Institute of Digital Games and hence we often engage in research projects with world-class universities such as and New York University.
