Cleanflight is a trajectory optimisation and visualisation tool that has been developed by the University of Malta, QuAero. and Malta Air Traffic 福利在线免费. It allows the operator to tactically (a few minutes before the manoeuvre) optimise climbs and descents and extract simple parameters that will allow the flight crew, in cooperation with ATC to fly advantageous trajectories. The tool is capable of optimising multiple trajectories simultaneously and is reconfigurable according to the operator. It can be utilised on the flight deck to optimise a single flight, in the airline operations control centre (OCC) to optimise multiple flights within its operations or in air traffic control centres to enable the controllers to define and support optimal climbs and descents in and out of airports.

The tool has also been tailored to the latter utilisation and, in particular, for use in airfields of low and medium density traffic. A concept of operations (CONOPS) has been developed to allow all stakeholders to communicate with air traffic control in order for the latter to be able to issue clearances for aircraft to fly the optimal trajectories. In order to support this, the tool has a fast-time simulator that provides confidence to air traffic control officers that the optimised trajectories will, from top of descent and/or start of climb to the end of the manoeuvre, indeed be conflict-free from other aircraft. The tool, when connected to ATC systems, will also monitor aircraft movements and generate an alert when aircraft deviate from the expected path beyond particular vertical and horizontal thresholds.

The Cleanflight technology is protected by US Patent 9,460,629. Other applications awaiting grant.
