| Abstract: | This paper proposes an integrated approach to transportation and open space infrastructure as a means to sustainable urban development of the Harbour Region in Malta. The region's dynamics are examined identifying unsustainable depopulation trends. Spatial analysis and theoretical research, the conclusions of which are presented, provides an understanding of the key issues. In response a potential spatial strategy in the form of a development vision integrating transportation and open space is explored. Insight into this is provided using typological interventions and reference case studies at the various scales. |
