| Abstract: | In this article, more curious Gozitan place-names are analysed and studied according to their meanings. Before starting with the first place-name, one must ask a very simple question: why do we study toponymy? In other words, what is the utility of studying place-names? There are two different aspects in the study of toponymy. Firstly, it is a matter of collecting the specific names of different fields, valleys, caves, cliffs or districts from different relatively large areas. The larger the corpus of these places-names, the better. The collection or listing of these placenames is the starting point to be able to analyse them. [Excerpt] |
