Abstract

This chapter provides a brief introduction to the field of social policy, offering readers an overview of key concepts and a set of references through which they may deepen and extend their understanding of the subject. Some cited sources date back decades; these seminal articles have been purposely chosen for their clarity and their contribution to the subject. This introduction to the field is followed by a brief historical backdrop to social policy in Malta, and an outline of the structure of this book.
