Abstract: Council Directive 97/81/EC of 15 December 19971 concerning the Framework Agreement on part-time work concluded by the Union of lndustrial and Employer's Confederations of Europe (UNICE), the European Centre of Enterprises with Public Participation (CEEP), and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) lays down the latest developments in EU law regarding part-time work. This directive has as its legal basis Art.4(2) of the Agreement on Social Policy annexed to the Protocol (No. 14) on social policy, which is annexed to the Treaty establishing the European Community. Art.1 states that Member States have to bring their laws in line with this directive by 20.1.2000 with a possible extension of 1 more year. [excerpt]
