Abstract: The purpose of this article is to describe the various operations that went into the design of the new anthropology displays at the Cambridge University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, which were opened on 4th July by the semi-obligatory figure of the Chancellor of the University, Prince Philip. In such enterprises it is inevitably tempting to rationalise one's actions and choices, or even to discover new connections and reasons for having taken certain decisions, but this article has much more modest ambitions. It is mainly to describe why the galleries and the displays took the particular form and appearance that they did.
