Abstract: For the purpose of this thesis, the author will be examining different anti-abuse mechanisms found in different Acts regulating local government, including the Local Councils Act (Chapter 363 of the Laws of Malta). The aforementioned Act will be compared with such other Acts examined, and the author will be proposing other anti-abuse mechanisms which in his opinion, are needed, to prevent abuse and make local government in Malta more accountable.
