| Abstract: | The article documents the work of landscape and garden architect Maria Teresa Parpagliolo Shephard (1903-1974), within the context of the discourses on landscape conservation and garden planning in Italy and Great Britain. The dialogue between the two nations, from the early nineteenth-century fashion of the "giardino all'inglese", had gradually evolved into a professional exchange of knowledge and styles, of common pursuits, and into a lively debate on the needs of modem urban communities. A dialogue only partially compromised by Fascism and by the war. The life and work of Maria Teresa Parpagliolo provide many instances of this lasting and enduring dialogue, especially from within the pages of the magazine Domus, to which she contributed from 1930 to I 938, and in post-war years, when her active presence in England fostered projects of land reconstruction, as well as the foundation of the International Federation of Landscape Architects. |
