Abstract: Despite numerous studies showcasing the exceptional properties of auxetic metamaterials across various applications, their widespread adoption in the mass market remains limited. This paper delves into recent work conducted in Malta that explores auxetic systems found in living organisms and introduces novel avenues for scalable auxetic metamaterial manufacturing. The discussion begins by unveiling the remarkable counterintuitive design of biological materials, shedding light on nature's blueprint for unconventional behaviour.
