Abstract: Environmental Studies is one of the subject areas which provide Secondary school students in Malta and Gozo with a wide spectrum about the physical, the built-up (or cultural) and the social environment that surrounds them: their family, the village or town, their country and the wider world (the Mediterranean, Europe and beyond). Environmental Studies is intended for all secondary school students and forms an integral part of their educational entitlement. Its importance was already emphasised in the National Minimum Curriculum of Malta (Creating the Future Together, 1999) and continued to be developed and improved in subsequent years. Currently, this integrated subject leads to the SEC examination of Environmental Studies at the end of Secondary school education. [excerpt]
