Abstract: This study aims to give a brief outline of the events surrounding the arrest, internment and deportation of 43 Maltese citizens during World War II. It seeks to identify the main events and the main debates of the period and aims to conclude whether internment and deportation were justified. A number of books and memoirs narrating this episode, as well as a good number of primary sources, journals, and personal interviews were also used as part of the exercise. In concluding the study, the author discusses the political relevance of such events and the continued conflicting debates which surround these actions.
