| Abstract: | After the first abortive attempt to play a match between two civilian sides, when Floriana left the field at the Marsa after trailing to the Saints by three goals to one, soccer rivalry seemed to centre around the prodigies of these two "giants" of the local game in their frequent encounters with the strong sides from both the Army and Royal Navy. Rapidly and swiftly the attractions of the game began to spread elsewhere, and about ten years after the turn of the century, there sprang up a number of teams outside the restricted Floriana-St. George's group. |
