Abstract: This research focuses on the spatial pattern of the names and types of dwellings, and the services offered between the old and new areas of Siggiewi. Various quantitative and qualitative research methods were adopted in this dissertation which includes field studies, the creation of GIS maps and their analysis, the calculation of chi-squared statistical test and questionnaires. By combining primary data collected with the secondary data researched, it was found that there is a relationship between the distance from the core and the type of dwellings. On the other hand, no relationship was found between the distance from the core and the dwellings dedicated to religious beliefs. The questionnaires together with the field study with regards to the services offered within the village backed up the hypothesis; that the core of Siggiewi acts as a commercial centre since it is the area that offers the most numerous and various types of services. This is a much needed study given that no other investigation has been done on the spatial pattern of these specific features in such great detail on the urban built-up area of Siggiewi. It could serve as a secondary data to future analyses on the development and changes both of Siggiewi and other rural or urban areas.
