Abstract: By a decision of the United Nations 1979 has been dedicated to children It seems that this decision has been well received by the majority of the nations of the world - for the year is to be the International Year of the Child - since already a great many countries, Malta among them, have set up National Commissions, whose business it is to see that the year is adequately celebrated by their people and that it results in lasting benefits for the children. There is hardly any need to ask why the United Nations have chosen to focus the attention of millions of people on children: if indeed the question is put, a good part of the answer is to be found in the slogan adopted by the International Council of Women at its conference in Vancouver in 1976 when the news of the International Year of the Child was first mooted, that slogan being "To-days child- the World's future".
