Abstract: This qualitative research seeks to identify the effect of tourism on the villagers of Marsalforn by evaluating its influences on the community and establishing the socio-cultural impact of tourism that has led to the community found today. Using the triangulation research methodology data was collected during 2011-2012. The main data sources collected included in-depth interviews with key community leaders, a quantitative survey carried out among the local residents, and observations made by the researcher which were captured on site and later recorded in a reflective journal. Overall this study reveals the strong recognition by the community of the positive economic impact of tourism, and to a lower degree, the social and cultural impacts which are too seen as positive. In addition it emerges that the community structure has changed with the advent of tourism. The study concludes with recommendations of alternative methods for attracting tourism and suggestions for future study.
