| Abstract: | The dissertation consists of applying ISO 9001: 2000 standard requirements to the local building construction industry through a real life case study carried out on contractor premises specializing in the production and erection of steel structures. After background research is made on the matter, interviews arc carried out with company representatives and the existing company documentation relevant to quality assurance is analyzed, the research finds together with the relevant standard clause requirements are applied on the facts derived from the case study. This results in a gap analysis and suggestions made for the adoption of an ISO 9001: 2000 - compliant quality system within the company through suggestions for improvement and the required documentation generation. The resulting conclusion is that only a change in mentality of the company top management would finally lead to a success in a quality system adaptation. A customer focused mentality automatically triggers the requirements as represented in the standard. Adoption of documentation without this background is a recipe for failure to meet customer expected requirements. |
