| Abstract: | This project illustrates the benefits which can be derived from Physical Education and Special Education for children with mental disabilities. It also shows that dance and movement have a particular contribution to make to pupils with special needs. It provides an alternative language and a route for learning about themselves, and the world around them. It is important to provide opportunities for children with 'special needs' to have access to an artistic, creative and educational experience. A basic dance programme is also provided for those teachers who would like to provide the children with an experience of play and dance. This experience can be linked through interaction with each other and the environment. |
