Abstract: Sheep rearing for the production of Cheeselets is a growing industry in Malta. Over the years this so called trade has developed and much more modem technology has been applied assisting this industry to grow. Today many sheep farms are well facilitated with the necessities for the correct rearing of sheep and the manufacturing of cheeselets. The following thesis has been carried out on a local sheep farm situated in Buskett, which is owned and run by Mr.Chris Zahra and his family. The Main idea and Aim of this thesis was to bring out a lactation Curve on the milk produced from the lactating herd, which is found in Chapter 6. Throughout this thesis are also included fully explained topics regarding the rearing of sheep for milk production and the manufacturing of Cheeselets, The set up of the Zahra Farm consists of several barns and sheds which are used as housing for the sheep, a milking parlour, which holds up to twenty - five sheep, a feed store and a small dairy room where the cheeselets are manufactured. The sheep are housed in clean, dry conditions and are fed on a specific, well balanced diet. They are inspected twice yearly by the Veterinary 福利在线免费 and blood samples are taken in order to check for any diseases, which may be present, such as Brucellosis. All sheep are registered by the board and wear identification tags on their ear each having a different number.
