Abstract: Chapter 2 looks at the terminology that describes the growth cycle of the grapevine, its anatomy and fruit physiology. One cannot hope to explain what is involved in managing a vineyard operation unless one understands the terms that describe its life cycle. Wherever possible I have also included the Maltese idiom since this is essential in communicating locally on the subject matter of my study. Chapters 3 to 6 examine canopy management. The management of the vine's canopy involves decisions on spaces between rows and vines, trellis architecture as well as training and pruning practices. Chapter 7 and 8 provides information on vine nutrition and irrigation management. All physiological processes are after all dependent upon water and fertility. Chapter 9 to 12 deal with disease, pest and weed management. Chapter 13 concludes by providing some standard month by month programs that can guide the grower in the routine cultivation of his vineyard.
