The Department of Health Systems Management and Leadership recently hosted a one-hour public lecture at the South Auditorium, Faculty of Health Sciences, Mater Dei Hospital, titled 'Reforming the British NHS: the impact of recent policies and future prospects', delivered by Mark Exworthy - Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Health ¸£ÀûÔÚÏßÃâ·Ñ Management Centre, University of Birmingham and Co-Director of the MBA Clinical Leadership course. The event brought together members of the academic community, healthcare professionals, and students for an engaging discussion on the evolving landscape of the British healthcare system.

As the British National Health Service (NHS) approaches its 80th anniversary, the lecture examined the significant challenges it faces—many of which are shared by health systems globally. The speaker provided an overview of recent reforms aimed at addressing these pressures, including efforts to improve service delivery, workforce sustainability, and system efficiency.

The session also explored the impact of these policy changes, offering critical insights into their effectiveness and the complexities involved in implementing large-scale healthcare reforms. Particular attention was given to the ongoing policy agenda required to ensure the NHS remains resilient and responsive to future demands.

The lecture concluded with a brief discussion led by the Head of Department, Prof. Sandra C. Buttigieg, allowing attendees to reflect on the broader implications of NHS reforms and their relevance to other healthcare contexts. Overall, the event provided a concise yet thought-provoking overview of current health policy developments and future prospects within one of the world’s most prominent healthcare systems.
