Kopin encourages young people to join #heroes4SDGs, a social media campaign which is running in Malta and internationally until June 2017. This action asks every young Maltese to do their bit for sustainable development, and showcase it in this fun campaign that is spreading globally.
In September 2015, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, where it outlined to be reached within 15 years in order to foster Sustainable Development and Social Justice around the world. The responsibility to contribute to the realisation of these ambitious goals which affect everyone lies within the society as a whole and depends on the active engagement of citizens from all over the world.
For this reason, the Maltese NGO Kopin (VO/0200) has launched the social media campaign #heroes4SDG targeting young people in Malta and internationally. The main aim of the campaign is to uniquely promote each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, whilst at the same time actively engaging young people, in an interactive and innovative way. The idea behind the campaign is to illustrate how each individual’s actions and efforts do in fact contribute to the realisation of the Agenda 2030, ultimately making a difference towards a fairer and more sustainable world.
Throughout the duration of the campaign, regular updates, infographics, data and videos about the Global Goals for Sustainable Development will be shared on the social media accounts of the project, thus enabling participants to learn about, reflect upon and promote individual, everyday and local activism to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
To go a step further, individuals are invited to show their support to the cause of Global Social Justice by taking a picture of themselves or their friends symbolically engaging in an action related to the SDGs and publish this with the hashtag #heroes4SDGs on the Facebook page Heroes4SDGs, on Twitter or Instagram.
Towards the end of the Maltese Presidency of the EU Council semester, an animated video about the campaign, including some of the best photos shared by young participants, will be realised and distributed widely on international social media platforms.
