Renowned Polish musicians forming the Apertus Quartet will be teaming with Polish pianist resident in Malta, Julia Miller, to bring to a Maltese audience a concert of wonderful classical music.
Opening with the much celebrated Piano Concerto in D Minor n. 20, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, transcribed for piano and quartet, the audience will immediately connect will a classic well loved piece of music. Following, Apertus Quartet will premiere in Malta, Stanislaw Moniuszko’s String Quartet n.1 in D Minor. This romantic, musically rich quartet will be an experience to savour for Maltese audiences, especially for those who want to explore the lush Polish musical culture beyond Chopin. The concert will end with the premiere of the four movement piano quintet Abschiedsbriefen - Letters of Farewell, written by contemporary Maltese composer Karl Fiorini. This powerful, very rhythmic work evokes the states of mind brought by a major change in life, and the farewells that need to be said.
The concert is part of the Project Valletta-Varsavja-Vjenna, intended to bring together three musical cultures and a better understanding of classical music. Julia Miller is an international pianist who has been residing in Malta for the past ten years. Graduated from the Academy of Lodz, in Poland, with a Masters Degree in Piano and Chamber Music. She has played many prestigious venues in Poland and elsewhere in Europe, settling in Malta after a short stint in Ireland. During the past ten years she played in all major festivals in Malta and also had her series of solo recitals titled ‘Julia Miller Plays’. She has been described as a ‘pianist with a warm solid sound and a specialist of profound emotional engagement.’
Apertus Quartet is formed Marta Kalińska-Strasińska (first violin), Paulina Wielgosińska (second violin), Małgorzata Sowierka-Chmiel (viola), Maria Katarzyna Filipiak (cello).
