Reminisces by Joseph Galea of a 1980 trip to the Asir Province of Saudi Arabia to document characteristic dwellings of the region.
Perit Joe Galea travelled in the South West of the Arabian Peninsula, Yemen and the Asir Province of Saudi Arabia, as an academic in King Faisal University, 35 years ago. Perit Galea will share his experiences travelling in Arabia Felix to document characteristic buildings in the region. The whole region has undergone dramatic and extensive changes during the past decades and Joe鈥檚 presentation on his experiences promises to be unique and of great interest to all. The Aseri vernacular houses present the symbolic relationship between people, culture, traditions, climate, limited construction materials and limited resources and environment, resulting in forms of constructions which however still fulfill the aesthetic, cultural and physical needs of the people in this climate and environment.
The next seminar in the series Staff Encounters at the Faculty for the Built Environment will be held on Wednesday 21 October 2015 at 12:30 in Hall A, Faculty for the Built Environment.
