Senior Research Symposium
Department of Anthropological Sciences
Friday 22 April at 17:30hrs
Library, Valletta Campus
The seminar will explore the relations between language (not just the Maltese language) and Maltese identity. Prof. Joseph M. Brincat, a linguist, will delineate the associations between language and identity: the historical origins, development and implications. Prof. Henry Frendo, a historian, will look at the pivotal role of language in Maltese history, community and scholarship, including in ‘language questions’. Whilst Mr Ranier Fsadni, a social anthropologist, will assess the implications of Joseph M. Brincat’s studies of Maltese for how we assess certain popular and academic models of Maltese national identity.
