The Industrial Heritage Programme (IHP) of the University of Malta, which was set up last year with the aim of undertaking and promoting research and teaching in the field of industrial heritage, will be organising its first activity as a half-day seminar on the Marsa Power Station site, in collaboration with Enemalta, who are hosting the seminar in the area of Turbine 8 at the Power Station itself. The seminar will be held in Maltese.
The seminar 'Marsa 2050, Il-Power Station u l-madwar, mill-img魔oddi g魔all-摹ejjieni' will be held on Saturday 23 April, from 08:30 till 12:30.
Dr Daniel Vella, Chairman of the IHP, and Mr Frederick Azzopardi, Chairman of Enemalta, will be opening the seminar.
Speakers include Dr Timmy Gambin, Dr Reuben Grima and Prof. Robert Ghirlando from the University of Malta. Dr Gambin will speak on Marsa as an Ancient Port of Rome, Dr Grima will be dealing with Abela's Casino San Giacomo and Malta's first museum, which stood on the tank area of the Station, while Prof. Ghirlando will pay a tribute to the Station and its workers.
Other speakers include Mr Max Farrugia, a former librarian of Enemalta, who will tackle the Development of Electricity in Malta during the 20th Century. Ing. Robert Schembri from Enemalta plc will talk about Dismantling the Power Station and the Way Forward, while Mr Josef Azzopardi will speak on behalf of G魔aqda Storika Kulturali Marsa about Jesuits' Hill from the time of the French.
An exhibition of projects on the Development of the Inner Harbour Area, by Master students from the Faculty of the Built Environment, is being held in the seminar area. The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Alex Torpiano, will introduce the exhibition to the audience.
