Screening of ‘The Wicker Man’ (1973) in the presence of Director Robin Hardy
The M.A. in Film Studies and the M.A. in Literary Tradition and Popular Culture within the Faculty of Arts of the University of Malta are proud to announce the screening of the final cut of the celebrated 1973 cult movie ‘The Wicker Man’ by the acclaimed British director Robin Hardy, starring the late, unforgettable Christopher Lee.
The long-awaited final cut will be screened for the first time in Malta on Saturday 28 May at the University of Malta Valletta Campus, Old University Building, St Paul Street, Valletta at 18:30.
The screening of ‘The Wicker Man’ will be preceded by ‘Breakable Boundaries’, a performance by a group of theatre students prepared specifically for the event. A Q&A session with Robin Hardy will follow the screening.
‘The Wicker Man’ tells the story of a policeman investigating a young girl’s disappearance on the dark, secluded shores of the fictitious Summerisle, off the western coast of Scotland.
‘The Wicker Man’ is considered by numerous film scholars and cultural historians as one of the most influential British horror-mysteries ever made. It has left an enormous legacy in cinema, music, comics, fashion, and the arts in general. On 3 May of this year, the English band Radiohead released as a download the single ‘Burn the Witch’ which pays tribute to Hardy’s film.
Refreshments will be served after the screening. This will give the public the opportunity to meet with Robin Hardy over a glass of wine, next to an artistic installation inspired by ‘The Wicker Man’, and produced by Rachel Formosa, Ian Caruana and Steffi Degiorgio.
The general public is cordially invited to the screening. Entrance is free. Reservation is not mandatory but seating is limited, so if you would like to reserve a seat, please contact Ms Yanica Cassar on +356 2340 2309 or by email.
