The University of Malta shall in the coming weeks be hosting a World Symposium on Lifelong Learning and Sustainable Development. The World Symposium is being jointly organised by the University of Malta, the Centre for Environmental Education and Research (CEER), Manchester Metropolitan University (UK), the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (Germany), and the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP), in cooperation with various UN bodies, government offices and authorities, universities, enterprises, NGOs and grassroots organisations from across the world.
Following the adoption of a new sustainable development agenda at the UN Sustainable Development Summit held in New York in September 2015, the World Symposium on Lifelong Learning for Sustainable Development will address the perceived need to explore and present concrete case studies that illustrate how effective lifelong learning for sustainable development can be attained. The symposium will offer an excellent opportunity for debate, networking and sharing of best practice in the field.
The World Symposium will be divided in two streams, the first comprising a display of thematic posters, which offers a great space for one-on-one dialogue between the exhibitors and attendees. The second stream shall consist of presentations that will focus on life-long learning for sustainable development in the formal and non-formal sectors. The plenary and parallel sessions, as well as the social events, will provide participants with an excellent opportunity to interact, network and learn about the latest ideas, projects and practices, mainstreaming lifelong learning and sustainable development across the world.
The World Symposium will bring together scholars from Europe, Asia, South America, North America and Africa and will feature the participation of some of the most renowned academics in the field. The participating presentations shall be compiled into a multi-volume publication, Handbook of Lifelong Learning for Sustainable Development, edited by Walter Leal Filho, Mark Mifsud and Paul Pace. This publication will be a further volume in the award-winning “World Sustainability Series”, published by Springer, which since its creation in 2015 has become the world’s leading book series on sustainable development.
The World Symposium on Lifelong Learning and Sustainable Development is bound to be among the largest events in the field of sustainable development and lifelong learning held in 2017. It will be held from 2 to 4 March 2017 at the Valletta Campus and will include about 30 presentations from international academics and a number of workshops.
The symposium management team have negotiated a special fee for local participants (€100 for all the symposium including lunches and coffee breaks). We are sure that this will be an invaluable meeting for the professional development in the area of sustainable development and lifelong learning.
The payment portal for local participants is open at the following .
