The M.A. in ‘Film Studies’ and the M.A. in ‘Literary Tradition and Popular Culture’ within the Faculty of Arts at UM are proud to announce the screening of ‘Il padre d’Italia’ (‘There is a Light’, 2017) by the internationally acclaimed Italian director Fabio Mollo, starring Luca Marinelli and Isabella Ragonese.
The award-winning film will be screened for the first time in Malta on Saturday 12 May at the University of Malta, Valletta Campus, Old University Building, St Paul Street, Valletta at 18:30.
The screening of ‘Il padre d’Italia’ will be followed by a Q&A session with Fabio Mollo and the award-winning director Antonio Piazza (‘Salvo’, ‘Sicilian Ghost Story’). Both Antonio Piazza and Fabio Mollo are supervising the second-year students of the University of Malta’s M.A. in Film Studies, who are in the process of shooting two shorts.
‘Il padre d’Italia’ is a moving and thought-provoking story of the unusual relationship between Paolo, a young homosexual, and Mia, who is six months pregnant, during a journey of self-discovery, confrontation, disillusion, and emotional maturity which raises the issue ‘What does parenthood actually mean and imply?’.
The general public is cordially invited to the screening. Entrance is free. Reservation is not mandatory but seating is limited, so if you would like to reserve a seat, please contact Ms Ruth Debono on +356 2340 2337 or by email, by no later than Thursday 10 May.
Refreshments will be served after the screening. This will give the public the opportunity to meet with Fabio Mollo and Antonio Piazza over a glass of wine.
