Are you an impulse buyer? Do you regret buying some of your clothes? What do you do with the unwanted items? Do you know how you can take care of your favourite garments to ensure longer use?
B.Sc. (Hons) Home Economics students, under the guidance of Dr Lorraine Portelli from the Department of Health, Physical Education and Consumer Studies within the Faculty of Education, are organising a campaign named ‘Expect more from your Clothes’ on 5 and 6 December at the University Quadrangle from 10:00 to 15:00.
The aim of this two-day campaign is to raise awareness about ethical fashion and the negative impact fast fashion is having on our natural environment. Various activities and workshops shall be organised, such as clothes revival – simple sewing and embroidery techniques, and appliqué to embellish clothes, stain removal and understanding of care labels, natural dyeing and the reusing of yarns.
There will also be a Meet & Swap activity where items of clothing can be swapped, donated or taken against a small donation to a local charity.
