The Vodafone Malta Foundation (the social non-profit arm of Vodafone Malta), is organising a hackathon with the theme ‘Break Poverty’ with the aim of finding ideas that can help tackle one of these social / poverty issues:
- Hunger and food waste
- Loneliness within the elderly community
- Homelessness
- Facilitating education for young people with learning difficulties
- Pairing voluntary help with those who need it
- Recognising early signs of an individual's situation leading to poverty/social exclusion.
The event will be over the weekend of the 8-10 March 2019, and held at the Vodafone Malta offices in Skyparks, Luqa.
Prizes are a cash prize of EUR 5000, EUR 2000 and EUR 1000 for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd finalists.
The criteria for applying are either as individuals or as teams of 3-5 people. The solution must tackle one of the themes above, and implementation wise fall under the term ‘mobile technology’ but could take any form or shape, not necessarily mobile apps (for example IoT etc).
If applying as a team, the members must still apply individually and supply the same team name in the registration form. There are no restrictions whether the team is formed independently between a group of individuals, or representing a company.
Deadline for applications: Friday 1 March
