The Department of Mental Health, in collaboration with the Commissioner for Mental Health, is going to organise a mental health event on 30 April 15:30 to 17:00 at the Central Auditorium, Mater Dei Hospital.
This event is based on an analysis of the main local newspapers that have been published over the past year. The aim of this analysis was to identify and explore the main themes related to mental health as well as the type of discourse used within newspaper articles.
The event will kick off with a presentation of the findings of the newspaper analysis, followed by a panel (and audience) debate. Based on the main findings of the analysis, the debate will focus on what can be done/not done to move away from solely speaking on behalf of persons experiencing mental illness to empowering/supporting them to speak out directly in relation to sharing perspectives and shaping care. The event will conclude with a summary of what has been said.
