The study is being carried out within the emerging science of Security Science. Security Science builds upon the contribution of different disciplines and its foundation depends on the application of theories and technologies specific to each of these disciplines.
The current study uses the methods of Cognitive Science and focuses on the analysis of psychophysiological responses to perception of threat, which is an essential component for the study of security issues. It is hypothesised that both perception of individual threat and perception of group threat (in this case, global threat) elicit psychophysiological responses whose analysis, if properly interpreted and contextualised, might contribute to the development of this emerging science.
The hypothesis has been tested with an Electrodermal Activity data acquisition & analysis system and a thermographic camera.
Preliminary results show that both conditions lead to distinctive psychophysiological responses.
