Prof. Giovanni Onore, Professor of Entomology at the Catholic University of Quito in Ecuador, will lead an online conference titled ‘Alien Species: Bees, Einstein and Ecology’, which is organised within the Interreg Italy-Malta ‘FAST’ Project.
After a long experience in Brazzaville, Congo, Prof. Onore has been living in Quito in Ecuador for about twenty years where he holds the role of professor of Entomology and coordinator of the Otonga Nature Reserve.
During the conference, which will be coordinated by Prof. Giorgio Sabella of the University of Catania and coordinator of the FAST program, Prof. Giovanni Onore will focus on the management activities of the protected area that combine the conservation aspect with that of the civil and cultural development and growth of local populations.
Actions aimed at creating a beneficial induced through the purchase of pack animals and agricultural tools, scholarships for the schooling of local young people, employment of residents in reforestation works with native essences and numerous scientific researches with thesis funding for Ecuadorian students. Among the next objectives is the creation of an Environmental Education Center.
Speakers will also include Prof. Gianpietro Giusso del Galdo, the Director of the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences of the University of Catania, Prof. David Mifsud from the Institute of Earth Systems at the University of Malta, and Prof. Santi Longo of the Gioenia Academy of Catania.
