Event: "The Environment as a Common Good" - Green Philosophy Discussion for Law Students.

The Environment and Resources Law Department, within the Faculty of Laws, invited Dr Alan Xuereb, who delivered a discussion which arguably may be regarded as an environmental philosophy or "Green Philosophy" expose'.
Law students following the Environment Justice course organised by the department had the opportunity to follow Dr Xuereb's thematic discussion on "The Environment as a Common Good". He looked into the various interpretations that the common good may have been given by various philosophers. He then linked this to the theme as to whether the environment was to be regarded as a common good. In a thought-provoking exchange with the audience, Dr Xuereb even questioned the theme itself as it may unintentionally imply that the environment may be looked upon as a commodity rather than "un bene".
Dr Xuereb is a lawyer-linguist with the Court of Justice of the European Union. He is a member of the Royal Institute of Philosophy in London and is an active member of the Oxford Philosophical Society. He is the author of several articles in various philosophical magazines in the United Kingdom. He writes on different philosophical topics particularly on political philosophy, morality and law and metaphysics. His recently published book is entitled "Riflessjonijiet Dwar il-Gid Komuni".
The event was organised upon the initiative of Dr Antoine Grima, Head of the Department.
