Title: Seminar about the PALEOSIM (PALEOclimate modelling of Small Islands in the Mediterranean and possible impacts on arthropod habitats) A Marie Curie project
Date: Friday, 25 November 2022
Time: 14:00
Venue: Erin Serracino Inglott Hall, University of Malta, Msida campus
Speaker: Dr James Ciarlo
The PALEOSIM project hosted by the University of Malta in collaboration with the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy and the Esplora Interactive Science Centre is a Marie Curie project focusing on regional climate modelling and includes a science-citizen program.
PALEOSIM focuses on the climate impacts on arthropod (insects, spiders, millipedes, etc) habitats since these play vital roles in the ecosystem (e.g., pollinators, decomposers, and others), and thus can act as indicators of ecosystem integrity.
During this seminar Dr James Ciarlo, who is an early-career scientist specialising in regional climate modelling will be delivering a speech. Dr Ciarlo is also the recipient of the Marie Sk艂odowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship that funds this project. He spent some years working as a researcher at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy, where he collaborated with top researchers in the field to prepare and analyse high-resolution climate simulations featured in the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change鈥檚 Sixth Assessment Report.
This seminar will be an introduction to the PALEOSIM project targeted towards University of Malta staff and students and to encourage participation through PALEOSIM鈥檚 citizen-science program. Any interested volunteers are encouraged to visit this website for more information.
