Dr Stefano Zammit, Senior Lecturer II at the University of Malta Junior College within the Department of Foreign Languages, has recently published two academic research papers in Italy.
The first paper, entitled L'eloquenza di Alessandro Tommaso Arcudi (1655-1718) nelle sue Prediche Quaresimali (in 'Tutti contro uno'. Alessandro Tommaso Arcudi nel terzo centenario della morte, Mario Spedicato (Ed.), Società di Storia Patria - Sezione di Lecce, Giorgiani Editore, Lecce, 2019, pp. 205-233), analyzes the eloquence of the Dominican orator, writer and scholar through a muldisciplinary approach. The most interesting aspect of this research regards Arcudi's particular technique of communication which distinguishes him from many other orators of his time.
The second paper, entitled L'eloquenza sacra barocca e tardo barocca in lingua italiana a Malta (in La Compagnia della Storia. Tomo I. Istituzioni ecclesiastiche e poteri tra centri e periferie dell'Europa mediterranea, Francesco Dandolo, Alberto Marcos MartÃn, Gaetano Sabatini (Eds.), Società di Storia Patria - Sezione di Lecce, Edizioni Grifo, Lecce, 2019, pp. 231-270), provides an overview of the rhetorical and theatrical art of sacred eloquence in Italian language in Malta between the end of the 17th century and the end of the 18th century, with particular reference to literary, linguistic, semiotic, religious, historical and cultural aspects.
