A group of first year Junior College students, led by Noel Agius from the Department of Sociology, took part in the 9th National Model European Parliament. Coordinated by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, the Model European Parliament programme kicked off with training sessions for youths coming from the main post-secondary schools, following which the participant youths got together to debate and took part in the Model European Parliament General Assembly. The simulation of the General Assembly experience took them to debate topics of concern to Europe, such as human rights, the environment, the economy and youth affairs.
Individual students were judged on various criteria. Judges were looking for poise and use of voice, body language as well as content of arguments. In the end, the Junior College team was judged collectively to be the best overall. They will be on their way to represent Malta at the Model European Parliament competition in Bucharest (Romania) next May. All EU countries will be represented.
Participating students reported that this has been an overall amazing learning experience for them all.
