The Annual Bioethics Weekend Seminar organised by the Junior College Biology Department was conducted successfully between the 24th and 26th February 2023 at the Salini Resort.  A total of 46 students participated in this seminar with outstanding enthusiasm.
The seminar first focused on team building through a series of activities such as musical groups and people bingo. Also group games were organised in which participants were given a number of challenges to take part in.
Mr Natalino Camilleri briefed students about bioethics, Ms Karen Buttigieg discussed bioethical issues about in vitro fertilisation, Fr. Ray Zammit discussed abortion and euthanasia, Dr Michael Asciak discussed epigenetics and Dr Rosienne Farrugia discussed genomics. The participants were given time to discuss these issues with the speakers and through a number of activities. Another activity was a staged trial and role-play in which participants were split into three teams representing the jury, the defence and the plaintiff in a court case about a bioethical case related to organ donation.
The weekend was once again a great success with a lot of positive vibes from our participants. The Biology Department would like to thank all the participants that made this weekend an unforgettable one.
