Eight students, accompanied by lecturers Riccardo Flask and Samuel Stellini, participated in a youth exchange held at a campsite in Patras, Greece, between 19-27 July 2022, as part of an Erasmus+ project ABECCCOL. The Junior College partnered with schools and NGOs from Portugal, Poland, Cyprus, Greece and Croatia to investigate the various effects of climate change on the environment, each national team focusing on a particular area. The Maltese team dealt with how global warming affects the rise of invasive species in the Mediterranean Sea, particularly the Maltese waters. The findings were discussed during the exchange.
This project perfectly illustrates how education does not have to happen between the four walls of a classroom but can be equally effective if done informally and creatively. The youth exchange participants discussed the various topics through presentations, activities, group work and role-play and by practicing interpersonal, IT, public speaking and creativity skills.
A summer to remember for many of the students who had the opportunity to interact with foreign counterparts whilst making friendships for life.
This project is coordinated by the JC International Office.
